BRENTWOOD – Both Femi Babalola and Maverick Chance each scored three touchdowns, including one Babalola-to-Chance TD reception, to lead the Ravenwood High School football team to a 38-7 win over Houston in the Class 6A second round Friday.
The two quarterbacks combined for a 21-yard strike when Babalola connected with Chance with 2:55 to play in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead. Houston answered just before the break but the Raptors defense held strong the rest of the way.
The Mustangs were the last team to beat Ravenwood – a 24-21 win in the semifinals last year.

Chance scored on a 12-yard run midway through the third to stretch the lead and the Raptors only added to the advantage the rest of the way on a Carlos Guerra 31-yard field goal and Babalola 8-yard scoring run in the fourth.
Ravenwood racked up 286 yards on the ground.
Chance led the way with 13 carries for 141 yards, while Caden Pace added seven rushes for 65 yards and Davis Dowland tossed in another 45 on seven touches.
Grant Lucas paced the Ravenwood defense with nine tackles as the Raptors collected five turnovers with four interceptions. James Nelson swiped two Houston passes with Matthew Anderson and Connor Shave both snagging picks as well. Sam Rohan added a sack and Danny Brown forced a fumble for the Raptors.
Ravenwood improved to 12-0 overall with the victory and will trek to Memphis next week as the top of the bracket rotates hosting for the quarterfinals and semifinals per TSSAA regulations each season. Whitehaven blitzed Independence 47-0 to earn a home game and erase a potential all-WillCo meeting in the quarterfinals.
The Raptors are in the state quarterfinals for the third consecutive season and fourth time in five seasons. They defeated Whitehaven in the last meeting – a 21-14 first round win in 2021.

Southwind 48, Brentwood 14
Kelvin Perkins scored five touchdowns and Southwind stayed unbeaten by overwhelming the Bruins in Memphis Friday in the second round.
Perkins is a 2023 Mr. Football winner, 2024 Mr. Football finalist and was named a semifinalist last week. He completed 12 of 14 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns and rushed seven times for 90 yards and three more scores.
He scored the first two TDs for the home team before Gavin Strang found Parker Emerson for an 11-yard strike with 6:22 to play in the second quarter to lift the Bruins within 14-7 after Keenan Fisher’s PAT. Another Perkins TD – an 18-yard touchdown to Shakim Atkinson – stretched the halftime lead to 21-7 for Southwind, which opened the third in a flurry.
Perkins broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown less than a minute into the second half and then ran in another score five minutes later as the lead stretched to 35-7.
The final Brentwood touchdown came from Emerson on a 50-yard sprint midway through the fourth – the last score of the contest.
Emerson closed with four catches for 57 yards and rushed six times for 62 yards.
Brentwood was out-gained 465-268 in the contest.
The Bruins exited the postseason in the second round for the second straight season, closing with a 7-5 record overall.
Southwind (12-0) will travel to Collierville, a 39-28 winner over Antioch, in the quarterfinals.
