Texas is the 2nd largest state in the union and, (sadly), we’re holding our own when it comes to overweight folks too. In fact, we’re #1 in that regard.

A list of the fattest cities in the United States of America, has 6 Texas cities in the top 100. To make that stat worse, they’re all in the top 50 with Austin just “squeezing” in at #49. (Yep, El Paso is in there too.)

Wallethub named Texas the 8th fattest state overall, (up from #15 in 2020), with one city on top at #1. You’ve heard of “Fat City“? Apparently, it’s Mc Allen, Texas.

El Paso is in 20th place, (27 last year), and the other Texas cities in the top 50 were San Antonio, (13), Dallas, (24), Houston, (33) and Austin is #49. McAllen’s done this before …

What’s Up With McAllen, Texas?

McAllen, TX, ranks as the most overweight city in the country, because it has the largest percentage of adults who are obese, at 45%, with an additional 31% overweight but not obese. McAllen also has the second-highest share of obese teenagers and the fifth-highest share of obese children.

El Paso’s nearest neighbor, New Mexico, only has 1 city in the top 100 – Albuquerque was #34. Arizona placed twice with Phoenix at 53 and Tucson at 77. Hawaii, California, Massachusetts, Utah and Colorado were the least “fattest“.
