LUBBOCK, Texas–Teams in the Lubbock area are beginning to decrease in number as the playoffs continue across the South Plains.

Here are some key matchups to look forward to:

Thursday night:

After defeating El Paso Americas in the bi-district round, the Monterey Plainsmen are preparing to face Fort Worth Arlington Heights in the area round of Class 5A Division 1. Arlington Heights, the No. 1 seed and co-champion from District 4, secured their spot by beating Fort Worth Brewer 36-23 in the bi-district round. The winner of this matchup will face the winner of Tascosa and Aledo in the regional round.


Texas Tech marches on, conquers UCF 48-9

Friday night:

Lubbock-Cooper will face Prosper Walnut Grove in an area round playoff matchup. The Wildcats are currently undefeated and hold the No. 1 seed from District 4, while the Pirates have secured the 3rd seed from District 2. Prosper Walnut Grove has the upper hand against Lubbock-Cooper, having won their last encounter in the previous area-round playoff game in 2024, 34-28. The winner will move on to play the winner of Abilene Cooper and Argyle in the regional round.

Liberty High School, the No. 1 seed in District 2, is preparing to face Graham High School, the No. 2 seed in District 1, in their inaugural matchup. The winner of this game will advance to the regional round to compete against the champion of the Greenwood-Fort Worth Eagle Mountain.

Estacado High School and Weatherford’s Brock High School are set to meet in a 2024 playoff rematch. The Eagles remain undefeated and hold the No. 1 seed in District 3, while the Matadors hold the No. 2 spot in District 2. The previous matchup in 2024 ended in a 62-12 victory for Brock. The winner will face the Seminole-Glen Rose winner in the area round.

Lubbock Christian has advanced to the regional playoffs, holding the No. 1 seed in Division III-District 1, and will take on San Antonio Holy Cross, a team that holds the No. 3 seed in the same division and district. The winner of this matchup will advance to the state semis against the Tyler All Saints or Dallas Christian winner.
