A 23-year-old has been identified as the woman who was hit and then pinned under a car in downtown Dallas on Saturday morning.

Aya Knox died at about 5:18 a.m. at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, according to the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.

Around 4:40 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to an accident in the 1500 block of Elm Street, police said.

They learned a woman had been hit by a car and was stuck underneath it.

Firefighters used extrication tools and airbags to lift the car before putting the woman in the back of an ambulance and taking her to a hospital, where she later died, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans said.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

As of Tuesday, the investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no other information has been provided by police.
