LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The South Plains Food2Kids organization received more than $18,000 to fight food insecurity across the region from a golf tournament fundraiser.
The West Texas Mortgage Bankers Association hosted its first golf tournament fundraiser for the nonprofit in August. The association set a goal to raise $5,000.
The association surpassed that amount by thousands thanks to members, sponsors and the community. The WTMBA presented the check today.
“The communities came together on behalf of Food2 Kids because obviously it stirs everybody’s heart to know that there’s kids right here in our own community that don’t have enough food on the weekends,” Tom Couture with WTMBA said. “You start getting that word out and people will move.”
Jerry Ramirez, director of South Plains Food2Kids, said the donation “makes a big difference. Lubbock has a big heart and thank you for supporting what we do.”
The money will be used to help further Food2Kids’ mission of feeding the community’s youth.
Food2Kids currently serves more than 2,200 children across several school districts in Lubbock County. It provides weekend food bags to ensure no child goes hungry when school meals are unavailable.
