Lubbock man accused of kidnapping after claiming to be rideshare driver

  • November 19, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock man is now being accused of kidnapping after he reportedly posed as a rideshare driver near the Texas Tech campus.

Two women were walking along Broadway when 20-year-old Jesse Gonzales drove up next to them and claimed to be their Uber driver. Once they were in the car he began racing down Broadway and driving recklessly through the Overton neighborhood.

A Lubbock police officer attempted to pull him over near University Ave. and Glenna Goodacre Blvd., but he refused to stop.

An LPD report outlines Gonzales was running red lights, nearly hitting parked cars and swerving on either side of the road.

He eventually pulled over near Marsha Sharp Freeway and Avenue V. The officer removed him from the car. The two girls got out and explained what happened to police.

Jail records show Gonzales bonded out of the Lubbock County Detention Center on Monday.
