San Antonio superfans of Cuatro de Kilo are going to have to find another burger joint to quell their meaty cravings. The famed Mexican burger chain has shuttered its restaurant at 12411 Bandera Rd #108 in Helotes as it prepares to relocate to 12370 FM 1957 #101.

The restaurant announced the temporary closure in an Instagram grid photomontage that read, in part, “We’re moving to a bigger and better location on Potranco. Thank you, Helotes, for all the love and support. We can’t wait to welcome you to our new spot soon.”

Cuatro de Kilo did not reveal the exact address in the posts, but a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) spilled the beans on the 2,100 square foot build-out in the Grosen Crossing Center.

Friends Álvaro Aguilar and Miguel Pérez founded Cuatro de Kilo in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2010, using recipes from Aguilar’s mother. The name, translating to “quarter of a kilo,” made it clear that they were serving beastly burgers.

After opening 30-plus more locations in Mexico, Aguilar set his sights on a U.S. expansion. He quietly opened the Bandera Road outpost in June 2023.

It took almost a year for the concept to receive any notice outside of word of mouth, but eventually Cuatro de Kilo drew raves for a stripped-down menu of burgers, fries, and rings. Soon, social media took notice, fascinated by the product and the chain’s unique rotating grills.

It’s unclear exactly when the restaurant will reopen. TDLR filings estimate that the build-out will be done by April 2026, but Cuatro has not given an official estimation. A request for more information was not immediately returned.
