New details have emerged about the planned relocation of Cuarto de Kilo Mesquite Burgers, the San Antonio branch of the Mexico-based burger chain of the same name.

The business — which specializes in giant burgers cooked over mesquite wood and topped with guacamole, grilled chiles and other goodness — last month teased plans to move its first and only U.S location from Helotes, where it debuted two years ago.

“We’re moving to a bigger and better location on Potranco!!!” the business said in an Oct. 22 series of Instagram posts. However, the posts didn’t include a precise address for the new store or a potential opening date.

Now, a new state regulatory filing offers a look at what will make the new Cuarto de Kilo bigger and better. And it shines a light on the likely opening date.

The new restaurant will be inside the Grosen Crossing development, 12370 FM 1957 Suite #101, and will span 2,100 square feet, according to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Cuarto de Kilo will drop $350,000 to develop the restaurant and the owners expect to complete construction on April 1 of next year, documents show.

Even so, the paperwork doesn’t indicate an official grand opening date, and officials with the chain were unavailable for comment at press time.

The original Cuarto de Kilo opened in downtown Guadalajara, Mexico, more than 15 years ago, and its name — Spanish for “a quarter of a kilo,” or more than half a pound — offers customers an indication of just how big a burger they’re in for.

The chain has since expanded to include 33 locations employing some 900 people, according to its website.
