The Texas Tech University System assembled the Board of Regents Friday to formally recognize Brandon Creighton as the sixth System chancellor. The meeting also marked the transition of outgoing Chancellor Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell, who is retiring from his position after seven years of service.
“I would like to recognize and thank Chancellor Mitchell for his many years of dedicated service to the Texas Tech University System. He has been an incredible leader and visionary who has overseen and led the Tech University System to tremendous growth over the past eight years,” said Cody Campbell, Chairman of the Tech University System.
Although Mitchell is retiring, he will transition into a Chancellor Emeritus position and serve as an advisor as Creighton officially begins his role on Nov. 19.
“I am absolutely confident in the leadership of the and the leadership of the universities and the leadership of the system moving forward so thank you for everything that you guys have done for me, for my family and we will always be the biggest advocates for every university we have in the Tech University System,” Mitchell said.
Michell said he is looking forward to handing the position to Creighton, mentioning that Creighton has worked side-by-side with the System on every challenge and success they have had in Austin.
Brandon Creighton served as a Texas State senator for 11 years and officially retired on Oct. 2 to assume the position of Tech System chancellor.
“His knowledge and vision will continue to lead the Tech University System to further growth and prominence as a top University System in the nation,” Campbell said.
Creighton said he is excited for a collaborative approach to leadership and the importance of working together for years ahead.
“What an honor and a privilege to set these goals for the future together as a team and to work with each other to make sure that our goals are accomplished,” Creighton said. “I certainly will do my best to inspire everyone that I work with to achieve limitless goals again with no ceilings.”
Creighton also highlighted the trajectory of the Tech System, highlighting ongoing growth.
“The future of the Texas Tech University system is wide open. We’ve got the momentum, the talent, and certainly the mission and the purpose.”
Looking ahead, Creighton hopes to frame Tech as an emerging national leader in academic achievements, research expansion and statewide impact.
“Texas Tech will again be the tip of the spear for higher education in this state and across the country.”
