A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal accident that left a 5-year-old dead Wednesday, Fort Worth police said in a statement.

Fabian Riojas was arrested and booked into the Fort Worth jail Wednesday night, according to jail records. He faces one charge of manslaughter-traffic accident.

As of Thursday afternoon, Riojas remains in custody, and it is unclear if bond has been set.

It is unclear if Riojas has an attorney.

Police did not immediately identify the relationship between Riojas and the boy.

Officials responded to reports of a major accident involving a Trinity Railway Express train and a vehicle in the 5300 block of Elliot Reeder Road at about 3:45 p.m.

After arriving at the scene, police confirmed a black Dodge Charger, carrying an adult and a child, tried to drive around a railroad barricade and was hit on the passenger side by the train.

Police later identified Riojas as the driver of the car.

The 5-year-old child died at the scene, and Riojas was transported to a hospital for treatment, police said.

No injuries were reported among the 43 passengers on the train, police said.
