CASTLE HILLS – Sylvia Gonzalez, a former councilwoman, will receive a $500,000 settlement from the city of Castle Hills, concluding a free speech lawsuit that reached the Supreme Court.

Gonzalez claimed retaliation by the city and Mayor J.R. Trevino after she called for the removal of the city manager, leading to her arrest.

While not admitting guilt, Mayor Trevino stated that he and the council have agreed to undergo civil rights training.

The settlement funds will be sourced from the city’s insurance, Trevino said.
