It was unclear whether Bingham knew either of the women, but police confirmed no one else was injured in the shooting.

“Forest Lane has been an area of focused attention, and yesterday’s crime underscores the importance of continuing to invest in public safety along this corridor,” Stewart said in the statement. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”

The incident appears to be one of domestic violence, Stewart said.

“I promise to continue working with the resources available to us from DPD and the city as a whole to find a strategy for reducing domestic violence,” Stewart said.
