The Cubs have signed relief pitcher Phil Maton to a two-year deal.
According to Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation, the Chicago Cubs have signed relief pitcher Phil Maton to a two-year deal.
Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 2015 June MLB Amateur Draft, Maton has spent time with seven different MLB teams.
Last year with both the Texas Rangers and St Louis Cardinals, Maton posted a 2.79 ERA in 63 appearances with 81 strikeouts, 23 walks, a 1.060 WHIP, a 32.7 strikeout percentage, and a .196 opponent’s batting average in 61.1 innings pitched. He also gave up just 3 home runs and 19 earned runs in 2025.
Maton’s contract is a two-year guarantee with a club option for a third year if the Cubs choose to bring the Paducah, KY native back. The right-hander will enter his age 33 season in 2026.

With the Cubs possibly losing a big bullpen arm from last season in Brad Keller due to free agency, it makes sense for Jed Hoyer to go out and add bullpen pieces for 2026 such as Maton. Â
