#17 Texas vs. Arkansas: The matchup
After winning four straight games and knocking off a pair of top-10 opponents in No. 6 Oklahoma (23-6) and No. 9 Vanderbilt (34-31), the Longhorns’ chances for a College Football Playoff bid took a likely fatal blow last week in a lopsided 35-10 road loss to No. 5 Georgia. Texas trailed 14-3 at the half, but pulled to within 14-10 before the Bulldogs turned on the burners in the fourth quarter with three straight scoring drives to pull away. The Longhorns are just 8.5-point favorites now against a 2-8 Arkansas team on their home field and could be sizable underdogs for next week’s season finale against No. 3 Texas A&M.

While the Razorbacks are on a run of eight consecutive losses and in the midst of a search for their next head coach, they have also been a difficult team to beat, even by the SEC’s top teams. Among their noteworthy setbacks are tight losses to then-No. 12 Tennessee (34-31), No. 4 Texas A&M (45-41) and LSU on the road (23-22) last weekend. Arkansas jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter against the Tigers, but struggled to move the ball through the air, committed three turnovers, and allowed LSU’s eventual game-winning touchdown on a 92-yard scoring drive with 7:53 left in the fourth quarter.
