Peyton Houston accounted for a quartet of touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) as his Evangel Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals of the LHSAA Select Division I playoffs Friday night.

After the Eagles’ 34-14 victory against St. Paul’s, the four-star recruit from the Class of 2027 who committed to LSU in September, was asked what he thought about the craziness surrounding the Tigers’ search for a head football coach.

“Not too much,” Houston told The SBC Advocate via 318Preps (WATCH VIDEO HERE). “I trust God and the plan.”

Asked whether he was committed to a particular head coach or LSU, the quarterback who once threw for a national-record 817 yards in a single game, was clear.

“I’m committed to LSU, that’s what we prayed about and I continue to trust God in the process.”

After his early commitment, Houston vowed to spend the rest of his high school days recruiting for LSU.

If Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin winds up in Baton Rouge, there will be familiarity with Houston. The Rebels offered Houston, but the school in Oxford, Miss., was not one of his five finalists (LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC).

In 11 games this season, according to Evangel’s stats, the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder has completed 208 of 301 passing attempts for 3,587 yards and 41 touchdowns to counter seven interceptions.

On 83 carries, “Pop” has piled up 888 rushing yards and 11 scores.

When he committed to LSU, Houston said he planned to enroll in Baton Rouge immediately following his senior football season.
