AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes erased a halftime deficit by forcing 10 turnovers and shooting 56.3% in the second half to defeat the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 81-70 at the First United Bank Center.
Buffaloes take control after intermission
West Texas A&M seized momentum early in the second half. Jailyn Sledge sparked the run with a steal, putback and fastbreak dunk that extended the lead.
The Bronchos could not match the Buffaloes’ defensive pressure as turnovers mounted, and West Texas A&M dominated the second half 47-34.
Head coach Tom Brown credited halftime adjustments for the turnaround.
“We didn’t play this week. This was our first game. I think sometimes you get a little bit rusty, and I think we were a little bit rusty in that first half. We get in the locker room, we talk about a few things, we made some nice adjustments, and then we played really well coming down the stretch,” Brown said.
Brown praised Sledge’s performance, particularly on defense.
“I tell you what, Jailyn Sledge had a fantastic game for us. Defensively, he was phenomenal. When you can make others better around you, you’re a really good player, and that’s what Jailyn did tonight,” Brown said.
