Thanksgiving Week Forecast

  • November 24, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Benign weather is being served up this Thanksgiving Week. It will be dry through at least Friday. Though temperatures will vary from day to day and night to night, overall they will be mild. Slightly above average for the most part.

TODAY

After a chilly start, this afternoon will be much warmer. Full sunshine and a westerly breeze will push temperatures to peak around five to ten degrees above average for the start of Thanksgiving week.

The westerly breeze will become northwesterly, mostly ranging from around 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts near 20 mph possible.

COLD FRONT

A cold front will move south across the area tomorrow. This will result in a wind shift from the northwest to the north in the afternoon with a slight drop in high temperatures (compared to today).

POSSIBLE MID-WEEK FREEZE

Freezing temperatures (32° or lower) are likely Wednesday morning across much of western and northern South Plains. Temperatures in Lubbock may briefly dip to near zero around sunrise.

Wednesday afternoon, though quite cool, will be mild. Under a mostly sunny sky, with a slight breeze, temperatures will climb into the 50s.

THANKSGIVING

It will be a cold start to Thanksgiving around the South Plains. The afternoon, however, is looking pleasant. Data today has me anticipating a mostly sunny morning with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon.

I expect highs generally in the 60s. A little above average for the holiday.

BLACK FRIDAY

Partly to mostly cloudy Friday but dry with seasonable temperatures. Highs again will generally be in the 60s.

WHAT WE ARE WATCHING

A strong cold front currently is expected Saturday. This one may bring the area its coldest air so far this season. It may, may, be accompanied by light showers.

I think it is important to keep in mind that this far out the weekend forecast can go one way or the other. Drier or wetter. Warmer or colder. Today the chance of precipitation is low. Today the potential amounts are low. At this time it appears the most likely type would be rain. However, some guidance is supportive of snow in the Panhandles.
