The group of voters suing to block a Republican-drawn congressional map in Texas urged the US Supreme Court to reject the new district lines and called for next year’s midterm election to be conducted using the state’s existing map.
In a filing Monday, the voters argued that the new maps were racially gerrymandered and shouldn’t be used in the next election. They urged the justices to leave in place a ruling issued by a federal court panel in Texas prohibiting use of the new maps. The state had appealed that decision to the high court.
