San Antonio nostalgia lovers are getting a chance to relive the magic of Saturday morning cartoons, cereal, pajamas, and all. Local artist Steven Barrera, the creator behind clothing brand Gacho Bad Designs, is debuting Saturday Morning Funhouse, an immersive throwback event on November 29 from 10 am-noon at 313 Chestnut St.
The experience is designed for Gen X and millennial parents who grew up glued to classics like Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, The Smurfs, SuperFriends, and Garfield. Throughout the morning, guests can watch a lineup of old-school cartoons on a large screen while enjoying a fully stocked cereal bar.
Instead of braving Black Friday throngs, attendees can help themselves to unlimited cereal, milk, and Pop-Tarts, with bowls and spoons provided. Customers are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring blankets and pillows for the full retro Saturday morning vibe.
Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for children ages 3 and under. A $40 ticket pack is available for a family of four. A $60 VIP ticket includes a limited edition, collectible cereal box art piece.
Proceeds will benefit the San Antonio Street Art Initiative’s Brick by Brick career development program, which provides free business education and mentorship to help empower local artists in growing their careers. SASAI is currently taking applications for the next 13-week Brick by Brick course that begins in January.
“This program takes pride in combining beatification efforts with the empowerment of business education so that even after the street art projects are complete, artists can take their lessons learned and use them ongoing to prosper as full-time artists,” explains the nonprofit in its mission statement.
Those interested in taking a family-friendly stroll down memory lane are encouraged to RSVP at SanAntonioStreetArt.org.
