And according to a massive new iSeeCars study analyzing over 40 million used car sales, the best opportunities to score big savings run from November through March, which is perfect timing, because that’s when the West Texas wind convinces half the city they need a heavier vehicle anyway!
MLK Day Leads the Pack for Deals in 2025 and 2026
The study found that Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the single best day of the year to buy a used car, offering 65.5% more good deals than average.
That means MLK Day 2025 on January 20th and MLK Day 2026 on January 19th should be circled, highlighted, underlined, and star-stickered on your calendar.

And “good deals” here isn’t vague–they’re defined as saving at least 10% off the typical used car price, which averages around $26,889. That’s roughly $2,689 in savings. In Lubbock terms, that’s months of Market Street groceries or a year of Raider Red Meats.
The Best Holiday Deal Days for Lubbock Shoppers
Here’s how the best times shake out for the South Plains, according to the study:
New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day (2025 & 2026): 58.6% more deals
January (2025 & 2026): 55.6% more deals
Presidents’ Day 2025 (Feb. 17) & 2026 (Feb. 16): 47% more deals
February (2025 & 2026): 36.2% more
Veterans Day 2025 (Nov. 11) & 2026 (Nov. 11): 23.1% more
Christmas Eve 2025 (Dec. 24) & 2026 (Dec. 24): 15.2% more
Even Thanksgiving 2025 (Nov. 27th) and Black Friday 2025 (Nov. 28th) show small bumps–but despite the hype, Black Friday ranks only ninth on the list.
So if you were hoping to find a deal after your leftover turkey sandwich–maybe just finish the sandwich.
The Worst Times? Classic Lubbock Summer
The study confirms what many already suspect: summer is terrible for used car deals.
In other words, buying a car in a Lubbock summer is not a good time.
