COLLEGE STATION — As Texas A&M football prepares for its final regular-season game, the Aggies are hoping for the return of a star player to help secure a spot in the SEC title game.

So, is Le’Veon Moss likely to play Friday for A&M (11-0, 7-0) against Texas (8-3, 5-2)? According to head coach Mike Elko, “probably not.”

“We’ll see. Probably not, but we’ll see,” Elko said Monday.

Last week, ahead of the Samford win, Elko was asked if Moss was still on track to play before the end of the regular season. Elko replied, “Yep,” in a sharp manner.

Elko has maintained that Moss’ injury should not end his season, as was the case with an ACL tear in 2024.

“The timeline is still exactly what we anticipated,” Elko told media members Nov. 10. “It’s still too early to tell if that’s going to move or not. The opportunity is there to get him back before the end of the regular season.”

Moss suffered a leg injury during the Aggies’ victory over Florida on Oct. 11 and has missed the last five games since then. To that point, the preseason All-SEC selection accumulated 389 rushing yards on 70 carries, scoring six touchdowns in six games.

The Aggies played Week 13 without their top three running backs, as Reuben Owens II and EJ Smith joined Moss on the sideline. Owens went through warmups and was suited for the game, but never entered against the FCS opponent.

Smith was in street clothes on the sideline.

A&M plays Texas at 6:30 p.m. Friday. With a win, the Aggies will head to Atlanta on Dec. 6 to play for their first SEC title in program history.
