In a release from Nov 21, DPD officials identified 23-year-old Christion Bingham as the shooter in Wednesday’s shooting in the parking lot of the Walmart located in the 9300 block of Forest Lane. Bingham was found by off-duty police in the back of a back sedan with apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds shortly after the incident, a social media statement from District 10 Council member Kathy Stewart states.
According to the Nov. 20 statement, one of the two women injured in the shooting was released from a local hospital with minor injuries. The other woman, who suffered multiple injuries in the shooting, was reported in the statement to still be in the hospital in stable condition at the time of its release.
“Forest Lane has been an area of focused attention, and yesterday’s crime underscores the importance of continuing to invest in public safety along this corridor,” Stewart wrote in the statement.
Stewart further clarified the incident is believed to have been an act of domestic violence.
“This incident appears to be an act of domestic violence,” the statement reads. “Addressing this type of violence is challenging and in fact, is the common thread in much of the violence in District 10. I promise to continue working with the resources available to us from DPD and the city as a whole to find a strategy for reducing domestic violence.”
