Texas A&M RB ‘probably not’ available for Lone Star Showdown

  • November 25, 2025

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M running back Le’Veon Moss might not get an appearance in the Lone Star Showdown during his college career.

Monday, head coach Mike Elko said Moss is unlikely to suit up against the Longhorns, as he continues to recover from an ankle injury he suffered against Florida earlier in the season.

“We’ll see. Probably not, but we’ll see,” Elko said.

While Elko never laid out a firm timetable on Moss’ return, he said the program was hopeful that he could take the field again before the end of the regular season. A&M needs a win against Texas Friday in the regular season finale to punch a ticket to its first Southeastern Conference title game.

“Certainly, we feel very confident for anything beyond the end of the regular season, if that presents itself,” Elko said prior to the Aggies’ win at Missouri.

Before his five-game absence, Moss led the Aggies in rushing yards with 389 and six touchdowns on 70 carries. Since his injury, Rueben Owens has taken the majority of the carries, racking up a team-high 570 yards with five rushing touchdowns on 99 attempts.

Owens, however, missed the A&M’s win over Samford on Saturday, due to injury, along with wide receiver Mario Craver. Monday, Elko said both players were “awesome.”

For Texas, head coach Steve Sarkisian said there was no update on linebacker Anthony Hill, who missed the Longhorns’ Saturday win over Arkansas due to injury.

Hill leads the Longhorns in tackles with 69, including seven tackles for loss and four sacks. He also has two interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

“They’re really talented,” Elko said of Texas’ defense. ” They’re a really talented football team. Obviously, anytime you play this game, it’s going to have a little bit of a different energy about it. That’ll be one of the biggest challenges that comes along with it and I think it’ll be an exciting opportunity for us Friday night.”

Texas A&M players of the game against Samford, per Mike Elko:

OL- Robert Bourdon
DL – Marco Jones
Offense – Amari Daniels
Defense – Landon Rink
Special Teams – Landon Rink (Would have gone to Jayvon Thomas if he hadn’t been tackled by the kicker, Mike Elko joked).
