Residents who travel to and from one of the busiest areas of San Antonio are facing delays early this Monday, November, 24, morning. An infrastructure incident is forcing drivers to take a different route to their destinations.

A stretch of road between Broadway Street and East Grayson Street is shut down due to a large water main break, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) confirmed to MySA. The traffic monitoring site SigAlert is advising commuters to take Alamo Street instead.

The disturbance involves a 24-inch water pipe, according to SAWS. The break, which occurred North of Josephine Street, happened overnight.

“SAWS operations center is adjusting valves to minimize effects of the break,” an agency spokesperson said. “Please avoid the area while crews make repairs.”

Residents and businesses along Broadway report not having any water a result of the water main break. The organization says it does not have an estimated time for when the repair will be complete. Updates on the pipe restoration will be released via SAWS’s social media channels. It’s unclear how many homes, apartment units, and businesses are facing a water shortage.

“We have minimized any outages, that is evolving quickly,” a SAWS spokesperson tells MySA.
