FRISCO — Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs may be eligible to be activated off injured reserve, but it likely won’t happen prior to Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Cowboys have yet to open his practice window after he was placed on injured reserve following a concussion he suffered at his home in an accident where details were scarce. Diggs was also dealing with a knee injury opposite of the one he had season-ending surgery on last year. Diggs hasn’t practiced yet, but he has been seen during practice sprinting and going through workouts with other players on injured reserve.

“He’s doing better,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said about Diggs on Monday. “One of the issues this week is that it’s a short week. Again, we’ll see what everybody does, but short weeks are a little harder. He’s doing everything best, and has a really good look on his face.”

Schottenheimer said he talked with Diggs on Monday prior to speaking with the media. Schottenheimer said Diggs told him he’s feeling good.
Without Diggs, at least for two weeks, the Cowboys’ defense has had success. The additions of linebacker Logan Wilson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams helped. So did the returns of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and rookie corner Shavon Revel. The Cowboys also elevated Caelen Carson to a starting role the last two weeks, though he was limited during Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles with dehydration.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) last week if Diggs — a two-time Pro Bowler and a former All-Pro — can help out a defense that’s getting better.
“I think if Diggs plays at the level that he’s expected to play, yes. A big yes,” Jones said. “It’s just amazing what additional healthy talent can do for your execution and game plan.”
Jones was then asked about his confidence that Diggs can play to the level they expect of him.
“I don’t know. No one knows,” Jones said. ”We’ll just see how it goes. He’s obviously been limited, so we’ll just see how that goes.”
We’ll also see if Diggs is activated prior to the following week’s game: a Thursday road game against the Detroit Lions.
It’s worth noting the Cowboys only have two injured reserve activations left this regular season before they hit the limit of eight. If they were to make the playoffs, that limit would extend to 10.
Diggs has played in six games for the Cowboys this season.
