Formal search-and-rescue operations are over for missing Southern Methodist University law professor Charles Hosch, who has been missing for more than a week after setting out on a hike in northern Georgia.
Hosch, 67, was last seen in Union County, about two hours north of Atlanta. His family said he was hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail — a route he knew well and had hiked before.
His law firm said Monday was the final day of formal search-and-rescue operations, though family and friends are still hoping for answers.
Hosch was described as a “devoted girl dad” and a new grandfather. A Harvard Law School graduate, his firm calls him a “brilliant legal mind” who has spent three decades mentoring law students at SMU’s Dedman School of Law.
Authorities have not released additional updates about the ongoing investigation.
Anyone who has seen Hosch or has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Union County Emergency Operations Center at 706-439-6091 or dial 911.
