A mother was arrested for allegedly assaulting El Paso County deputies as her daughter was being arrested for domestic violence, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault in progress on Nov. 20 in the 8700 block of Kingsway Drive near Canutillo, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release.

Marisela Valenzuela, left, and her daughter, Mayra Salinas, were arrested in connection with the alleged assault of El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a domestic violence incident.
As the deputies investigated, they attempted to arrest Mayra Salinas, 32, but her mother, 64-year-old Marisela Valenzuela, “intervened by placing herself between Salinas and the deputies,” the news release states.
Valenzuela allegedly “assaulted the deputies, preventing them from securing Salinas in handcuffs,” the news release states. No information was released on how Valenzuela assaulted the deputies or the severity of the deputies’ injuries.
