Three female gorillas have recently made the move to San Antonio Zoo, where they will complete the band of seven in a new habitat set to open in December.
Footage from the zoo shows the trio, Anaka, Merry, and Andi, who moved to Congo Falls, a new enclosure built to mark the return of gorillas to the zoo for the first time in 35 years.
The initiative is a collaboration with the Gorilla Species Survival Plan, the zoo said. It “marks an important milestone in both institutions’ shared commitment to the conservation of western lowland gorillas.”
Congo Falls will be opening to the public on Saturday, December 13. The enclosure is described as “a world-class habitat, setting the stage for a transformative new era in innovative habitat design, wildlife conservation, education, and animal care.” Credit: San Antonio Zoo via Storyful
