AUSTIN, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is urging universities to oppose the new revenue sharing agreement from the NCAA’s College Sports Commission.
Earlier this week, Texas Tech disputed the proposal, citing concerns with its provisions. The new agreement includes language that would prevent schools and states from suing to block or change parts of the deal.
It also includes 18 other clauses Cody Campbell, the chair of the Tech Board of Regents, called “concerning.”
Paxton said the deal would hurt schools and undermine college sports. He argued it gives the new commission “practically unlimited authority.”
Paxton said he will fight to change the agreement, insisting the commission is building legal immunities for itself at the expense of colleges and universities.
The agreement will not go into effect unless every school signs.
