A working Dallas mother of four says she feels relieved from the generosity of a well-known athlete with deep North Texas ties, providing a hand up for one of the many Dallas County families battling to avoid eviction.

Tasha Broussard summed up her Wednesday succinctly.

“I’m in disbelief,” Broussard said.

To better understand this moment, a walk with Tasha Broussard day-to-day might help.

We first met this mom of four earlier this month, working full-time plus extra jobs, but earning just enough to not quite make rent.

“So I’m behind a bit; it’s about to be a lot but you know I try to make it,” Broussard said. “I try to make it.”

We learned this week that among those who saw her story is an NFL quarterback with deep North Texas roots.

Kyler Murray, who starred at Allen High School and currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals, heard about Tasha’s story.

The Kyler Murray Foundation, on Wednesday, through a partnership with Dallas-based 4 Me, Inc., committed nearly $10,000 to provide relief to the Broussard family.

Lisa Stephenson with 4 Me Inc., shared with Broussard that her $1,700 monthly rent would be paid for through next March, along with gift cards for the holidays and upcoming birthdays.

“She lost her husband, lost her mom, lost her dad, and is literally doing it all on her own,” Stephenson said.

“We are here to give hope.”

Broussard said the generosity will allow her to be home from work by mid-afternoon on Thanksgiving Day to enjoy the holiday with her children, knowing there is more security in the months ahead.

“They have given us some more days to be in a house with shelter,” Broussard said.

“It’s tears of joy, not tears of sadness, tears of being drained and tears of hopelessness.  It’s all happiness.”
