Arlington police are investigating reports of gunshots Friday evening near businesses across the street from The Parks Mall, police said.

Initial reports indicate “two separate groups encountered one another and exchanged gunfire” in the 4200 block of South Cooper Street, Sgt. Richard Coleman said in a statement.

There are no ongoing threats to the public, and as of about 7:15 p.m., no victims had been located, Coleman said.

The incident did not occur on mall property. The gunfire was reported on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
