The San Antonio area may experience its first taste of winter.

After a cold front swept through the region on Wednesday that brought in breezy and cool conditions, a stronger system will not be far behind. High temperatures will slowly climb into the 70s by Saturday, November 29, in San Antonio before they go plunging again.

This time, certain areas of the region will experience temperatures close to freezing overnight, as some of the coldest air of the season moves into South-Central Texas from Saturday night into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the high temps in San Antonio were forecasted to be 60, 55 and 58 degrees on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, respectively. The overnight lows for those three days will be 50 on Sunday, followed by 42 on Monday and 40 on Tuesday.

While San Antonio may avoid the freezing temps, that may not be the case for other areas in the region.

Will it freeze in San Antonio, Austin or the Texas Hill Country?

The best chances for a freeze will be in the Texas Hill Country. In Fredericksburg, the overnight lows will plunge to 32 degrees on three consecutive nights early next week. Kerrville overnight temps will be in the mid-30s, as will be the case in New Braunfels and San Marcos. Llano, northwest of Austin, may see temps dip below freezing.

Austin’s lows are expected to dip into the upper 30s, and its highs will be in the 40s.

The NWS has not yet issued any freeze warning or watch for the area, including San Antonio.

Though a freeze is still in question locally, northernmost parts of the state may see snow following Thanksgiving celebrations. In Amarillo, temps will hit the low 20s on Saturday night before a 20 percent chance of snow on Sunday and Monday.
