Former KAMC anchor Keith Williams dies after bison attack at state park

  • November 29, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A former Lubbock television anchor and congressional staffer has died following a bison attack at Caprock Canyons State Park.

His family says Keith Williams was visiting the park with his daughter when he was attacked by a bison. He later died at a Lubbock hospital.

Williams worked as a reporter and anchor at the McAlister Family’s KAMC in the 1980s. He then served as press secretary for Lubbock Congressman Larry Combest and for the USDA.

Visitation will be Wednesday and the memorial service will be Thursday at Combest Funeral Home. We will update this story with specifics when they are available.

Keith Williams’ career

Sharing a small snippet of his on-air work that’s found online decades later, Chip May posted this video to Vimeo of a 1986 report Williams delivered on last-minute Christmas shopping at the South Plains Mall.

Williams’ LinkedIn profile shows he first worked in radio, at KLLL and KSEL in the 1970s. He then served various roles, including senior reporter, anchor and assignments manager, at KAMC through the 1980s.

From October 1989 to August 1998 he was Rep. Combest’s press secretary, then handled communications for the House Agriculture Committee.

In the 2000s Williams served as press secretary for U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi), communications director for the Senate Committee on Ag, Nutrition and Forestry, then press secretary for the USDA. In the 2010s he handled various communications roles for the U.S. Grains Council, Rep. Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX 26) and the National Turkey Federation.
