High school students put on the live nativity at St. John Paul II Academy. The nativity scene is open until tomorrow from 6-8 p.m.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — You have until Tuesday to experience the beauty and wonder of the Christmas story brought to life by the high school students of St. John Paul II Academy.

Father Peter Martinez and students Evan Garcia, Ella Garcia, Eliana Galvan, and Michael San Miguel Jr. joined First Edition to discuss the importance of bringing the live nativity to life.

Father Martinez said, “There’s a lot of noise at this during this time of the year and this helps us give us a tangible example of the reason for the season. The birth of our savior.”

The live nativity will take place at St. John Paul II Academy, located at 3036 Saratoga Blvd. , until Dec. 2nd from 6-8 p.m.

The students portraying the characters in the live nativity say they enjoy seeing the reactions of younger kids.

Eliana Galvan who plays an Angel says, “They’re beaming with joy and it’s kind of cool because growing in Corpus, you hear about this is the Coastal Bend and so for me it was always our tradition too for our family to go and so I think back now, I was one of those little kids watching, so it’s really cool to like see how the tables have turned.”

Father Martinez adds that this would not be possible without the students. “We have 50 to 80 students and this is our 20 years putting this together,” said Father Martinez.
