LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A brief but bitter shot of cold settles over the South Plains Monday night. Skies will clear, and winds ease, allowing low temperatures to fall into the middle teens on the Caprock and the low 20s elsewhere across the region.

Some of the coldest spots near the Texas–New Mexico line could briefly dip into the single digits before a shift in winds begins to moderate readings after sunrise.
A weakening cold front pushing through the region this afternoon will bring a period of stronger north winds, which will then diminish tonight.

A breezy Tuesday afternoon across much of the South Plains will help temperatures rebound, thanks to southwesterly winds, into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by late afternoon. Above seasonal averages are expected for early December.

Chilly conditions return through midweek as another cold front moves through on Wednesday. Precipitation chances come back Thursday morning, with rain and snow showers mainly confined to the far northwestern South Plains.
