LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Local veterans had some help putting food on their table today, thanks to a partnership with the Lubbock VA clinic.
The clinic’s Whole Health Department held a mobile food pantry outside of the clinic this morning. Laura Maul, the acting assistant director with the VA clinic, said the holidays can be hard on veterans.
That is why it partnered with the South Plains Food Bank to help nourish hometown heroes. She said an added benefit of having the food pantry at the clinic is allowing these veterans to see a familiar face helping them out.
“Lots of smiles, there’s been lots of smiles. They are very thankful, and again, like I said this is what we’re here for so to see those smiles and to be able to help is… it makes our day,” Maul said.
Maul said today they received non-perishable food items, coffee, as well as some fruit and other snacks.
The Lubbock VA clinic said it plans to host quarterly mobile food pantries like this one moving forward.
