Looking for jump scares and frightening festivities this Halloween?

Several celebrations embracing the spooky season are underway across Fort Worth and Tarrant County. 

From scary stories around the campfire to costume contests for young children, here’s a roundup of events that are sure to cause goose bumps: 

Cutting Edge Haunted House offers best scares in the nation

An abandoned meat packing plant is filled with terrifying actors, scary effects and monsters on the move. The haunted house was recently ranked one of the scariest in the U.S.

When: Timed entry: Oct. 18-19; Oct. 23-26; Oct. 28-Nov. 1

Brave the night for Fright Fest 

Hide! ‘The Birds’ attack in thrilling Fort Worth play

The play follows three strangers seeking shelter in an abandoned home. They quickly realize the biggest threat might not be coming from outside. The show is based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1953 short story, “The Birds,” which served as the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s famous film.

Think you have the best costume? Show it off at Harvest Festival 

Children ages 3 and under will kick off round one at 10:30 a.m. before older age groups strut their stuff starting at 11 a.m. Local businesses will line up their vehicles for trunk or treat fun.

When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 18

Where: City Hall Plaza, 100 Main St., Colleyville

Admission: Free

Scary words jump off the page at Horror Book Fest

Talking Animals Books hosts its first ever spooky festival to celebrate horror literature, local authors and artists. The event features a lineup of chilling panel conversations and Halloween vendors. 

When: 2-8 p.m. Oct. 18

Where: Hop & Sting Brewing Co., 906 Jean St., Grapevine

Admission: Free

Do the time warp again at ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ screening

A troupe of costumed actors will perform live as the classic cult film plays on the silver screen. Longtime fans of Rocky Horror are invited to sport their favorite character costumes. The event is for ages 18 and older.

Run away from the scares at ‘Spooky Sprint’

The Halloween-themed 5K and 10K runs feature designer shirts and treats at the finish line

Crank up the angst for Adulti-Verse: Emo Night

Dust off your old eyeliner and wear your checkered Vans for a celebration of the emo music that raised a generation. DJ Brian Pibb will be mixing several iconic music acts, including Panic! at the Disco, Paramore and The Used. The event is for ages 21 and older. 

When: 6-10 p.m. Oct. 23

Animals celebrate Halloween during Boo at the Zoo

Normal is an illusion, embrace oddities at ‘The Addams Family’

When Wednesday Addams falls in love with a “normal” guy, chaos erupts during a family dinner. The musical comedy runs at over 2 hours and 30 minutes

When: 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24; 1:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25; 1:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26

Soar to new heights at Trick or Treat at the Museum

Ride around the aircraft exhibits in a World War II jeep while you sport your best Halloween costume. Test your agility in an aviation-themed obstacle course.

Dress to impress at Bedford Boo Bash

Try spooky drink specials at Boos & Booze Halloween Bar Crawl

Crawl through Bar 2909, Kung Fu Saloon, Reservoir, Koe Wetzel’s Riot Room, Junk Punch and The Whiskey Garden in downtown Fort Worth. Tickets include two complimentary shots, no covers and a costume contest. The event is for 21 and up. 

When: 4-10 p.m. Oct. 25

Sit around campfire for Bewitched by the Barn

Tell your favorite spooky stories as you eat some popcorn and sip on your favorite cider. The tales get more frightening as the sun sets.

Find the killer at The Masquerade Party & Murder Mystery

Don your mask and sip something sinister as you search for the killer across four haunted floors. Will you unmask the culprit before midnight?

When: 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Oct. 31-Nov. 1

Where: Thompson’s, 900 Houston St., Fort Worth

Catch a ride with ghouls and goblins on Witches’ Brew Train

Climb aboard the Grapevine Vintage Railroad for a haunting good time. Texas craft brews and spooky bites will be available for passengers. The event is for ages 21 and older. 

When: 7:20 p.m. Oct. 31

Where: Grapevine Vintage Railroad, 636 S. Main St., Grapevine

Dance the night away at HALLOWEEN with DJ Deville

DJ Deville will spin tracks inspired by the spooky season. Come dressed in your best costume and be ready to party. 

When: 9 p.m. Nov. 1
