LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – It’s a mix of good and bad news this week. And while there are only two low performers on the list, combined they have nearly 60 violations.
Cafe J at 2605 19th had 39 violations.
Ready-to-eat chicken was above the safe cold hold of 41°.Several ready-to-eat food items did not have a date mark: a dairy product, cut onions, meatballs and marinara sauce.Cream had “an off offensive odor and texture” and was no longer safe.A muddler and drink shaker were dirty.A dirty knife was stored with clean utensils.Soda nozzles, at both bars, had a black substance in them.The interior of the ice machine had paint peeling.Toxic items were not stored properly.A strainer was in a hand sink. Hand sinks are for hand washing only to prevent cross contamination.Multiple utensils and food contact items were damaged or broken.The drain line from the three compartment sink was leaking. It was not maintained and operated according to the plumbing code.Two hand sinks were not plumbed correctly.

The report says most of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
Jack N Jill Donuts at 9810 Slide had 17 violations.
Raw eggs were above the safe cold temperature of 41°.Kolaches were not at least 135°.Sliced ham, cooked sausage and salsa did not have a date mark.An employee drink from a canned drink, cleaned a table and returned to food prep without washing their hands.An employee washed their hands and turned off the faucet with their bare hand. A barrier, like a paper towel, must be used to prevent cross contamination.There was no soap at a hand sink.There was no documentation or log sheets to show how long food items have been out.The three compartment sink is leaking into a waist bucket.Food handler cards for employees were expired.
The inspector notes due to the number and the nature of the violations food safety knowledge was not demonstrated.
