EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A traditional festival that celebrates an old German folklore tale around Christmas is coming back at the El Paso County Coliseum for the 9th edition.

A Krampus festival is a traditional Alpine celebration, most often held early in December, where people dress as the horned, mythical beast Krampus to punish the “naughty” children on the eve of St. Nicholas Day. The tradition has roots in pre-Christian, pagan rituals associated with winter solstice rites, which were later integrated into Christian celebrations.

The 9th Annual Krampus Fest in El Paso includes an art show and market, live music, fire dancers, food trucks, and local vendors.

The annual Krampus Walk & Costume Contest, which features elaborate and fearsome ensembles, will also be back.

It’s all happening from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the El Paso County Coliseum on 4100 E. Paisano Drive.

You can get the latest updates on the festival on their Facebook page.
