WASHINGTON, December 3, 2025: In an update to a story, we brought you back in November, Democrat Henry Cuellar, who was one of six House Democrats who helped end the longest running federal shutdown, was pardoned earlier today by Donald Trump. As readers may remember, Henry Cuellar (D-TX) joined five Democrats to vote with the Republicans to end the federal shutdown over healthcare benefits scheduled to end this month.

Citing that “the Biden Administration weaponized the Justice System,” Donald Trump announced earlier today on social media that he plans to pardon Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, on criminal bribery charges. Writing on social media, Trump wrote that “Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight,” adding “your nightmare is finally over!”

According to Trump’s post, Cuellar’s daughters Catherine and Christine Cuellar wrote to Trump asking him to pardon their father. The daughters wrote that they believed “that our father’s independence and honesty may have contributed” to the criminal case. The daughters wrote, “all we want as their daughters is time, time to be with them, to share laughter and family dinners, and to see them live without the weight of worry.”

The Cuellars were indicted on April 30, 2024, for allegedly accepting close to $600,000 in bribes from two foreign companies.

Cuellar responded to the pardon on social media with “This pardon gives us a clean slate…the noise is gone…the work remains…and I intend to meet it head on.” Cuellar close with “thank you Mr. President, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.”

Because Cuellar was charged federally, that case will conclude without a conviction once the White House issues the official pardon.
