The exhibition Sunday Call to Church: The Art of Clementine Hunter is set to be unveiled at the African American Museum in Dallas.
The location is historic Fair Park and the exhibition will be free and open to the public. Sunday Call to Church celebrates the life and legacy of Clementine Hunter. She was a self-taught Louisiana artist born in 1887.
Her vivid depictions of life on the Melrose Plantation are important works of folk art. The paintings show worship, work, and community in the rural South.

The exhibition runs from Dec. 5, 2025, through March 6, 2026. It draws from private collections. It also includes pieces from the Museum’s folk art holdings. The collection is known as one of the most significant in the Southwest.
Visitors will see Hunter’s expressive style and storytelling skill. The scenes honor resilience, faith, and everyday life in Black communities.
The African American Museum is located at 3536 Grand Avenue in Dallas. The exhibition will appear in the Museum’s Folk Art Gallery on the main level.
