HOUSTON — The Sam Houston Bearkats had their 4-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse in a 66-50 loss to the Rice Owls. 

Sam Houston (5-2) entered the night leading the country with an average of 30.0 turnovers per game, but were only able to turn the Owls (6-3) over 11 times as Rice owned the second fourth quarters to secure the win. 

The Kats held a 15-9 lead after a quarter of play and were up 21-14 with 6:37 to play in the half before Rice outscored the Kats 14-4 to end the quarter and take a lead into the break. Sam Houston then trailed by just two points entering the final period but were outscored 25-11 in the fourth after the Owls hit nine of 14 shots from the field and five 3-point buckets.  

Whitney Dunn hit half of her 14 shots from the floor and led the Kats with 15 points, while Deborah Ogayemi registered her first double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  

The Kats hit 42.9 percent from the field in the first quarter but finished at just a 35.6 percent clip and were outscored 18-4 in transition for the game.

It will be an extended break for the Bearkats as they observe finals week on campus, not returning to the court until December 19 whey they host SMU. The game, set to tip at 5:00 p.m., will be aired on ESPN+.
