The Sachse City Council on Monday voted to expand the services from which the city can collect revenue for emergency responses.
The council received a lengthy presentation from Assistant Fire Chief Adam Kroviak, who said the city can develop a “new revenue stream” by enacting an ordinance that expands billing to include fire calls in addition to medical services. The city can earn an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 more annually by recouping some of the costs associated with fire service calls.
“We can choose which services we can bill for mitigation,” Kroviak said. Council member Lindsay Buehler noted that she doesn’t want to bill residents for services covered under the ordinance, which the council approved unanimously in a 6-0 vote; Councilman Frank Millsap was absent. The city plans to bill insurance companies for any costs incurred by emergency service personnel.
City Manager Gina Nash said any revenue collected would be placed in the general fund and not earmarked for a specific department, such as fire protection.
