Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein will be the next head coach at his alma mater Kansas State, KSU athletics director Gene Taylor announced Thursday.
Klein, who played for the Wildcats from 2009-2012, led the team to back-to-back 10-win seasons as a junior and senior, capping his career as a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2012.
“We are excited to welcome one of our all-time greats back home to Manhattan,” Taylor said. “Collin is a tremendous leader who cares deeply about his players. The grit, toughness and aggression he displayed as a player still fuels him today as a coach, and he is determined to carry on the tremendous success this program has achieved.”
Kansas State announced that Klein agreed to a five-year contract with an average base salary of $4.3 million to coach the Wildcats. Additionally, the school announced that he will remain with Texas A&M — who look set to play in the College Football Playoff later this month — until the end of the Aggies’ season.
