EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 3, after failing to stop at a road closure at far East El Paso that was impacted due to a water main break, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).

Shortly after 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies were conducting traffic control at Montana Avenue and Desert Meadows due to a water main break that forced the complete closure of the westbound lanes at the 14600 block of Montana.
While deputies were managing the closure, a black Ford Explorer approached the intersection westbound without its headlights on. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for the equipment violation; however, the driver, identified as 28-year-old Christian Chuy Martinez, gestured with his hands that he would not stop and continued driving, according to EPCSO.
EPCSO said Martinez was arrested without further incident and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle under a $1,000 bond.
“When our deputies are out managing emergencies and keeping the public safe, ignoring their instructions puts everyone at risk,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “If you refuse to stop, you will be held accountable.”
