LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The 2025 USA Boxing National Championships will take place at the Lubbock Civic Center starting Monday, featuring hundreds of amateur boxers competing to represent the United States.
Michael Campbell, works for USA Boxing in the events and operations department. He says you wont want to miss out on all the action.
“This national championship is very significant because it’s on the road towards Los Angeles in 2028, the Olympics is going to be back in the United States in two years and this is going to start our qualification procedure to see who will be our boxers in that tournament,” Campbell said.
Event brings thousands to Lubbock
Scott Harrison, director of sports for Visit Lubbock, said the event will bring thousands of people to the city.
“There will be over a thousand boxers, right at 900 coaches, I think 75 to 100 officials, 25 to 50 staff members that go along with them everywhere they go to help set up all this,” Harrison said. “We have seats for about 1,500 people, so basically we’re filling up the whole civic center for ten days,” Harrison said.
The championships will feature over 900 matches from amateur boxers representing 46 states.
“Some of those faces you will see in the boxing ring in Los Angeles will be here boxing and competing in this tournament,” Campbell said. “So if you’re a fan of the Olympics or a fan of combat sports, this is the place to be,” Campbell said.
Lubbock positioned as sporting event hub
Campbell said USA Boxing enjoys coming to Lubbock and believes the city can become a major hub for other sporting events.
“Part of this relationship with the city of Lubbock and Lubbock sports we have tried to leverage other national governing bodies,” Campbell said. “Being in Colorado Springs, we have a lot of other friends there in combat sports such as judo, karate, taekwondo, fencing, and so we often try to make those connections to keep the pipeline going to keep the city busy and viable and hosting Olympic sports,” Campbell said.
The boxing national championship will run from Dec. 8-13. Tickets will be sold at the Lubbock Civic Center on event days with different ticket options available.
