Canje is throwing a holiday party celebrating Puerto Rican culture this month. On Sunday, December 14, the East Sixth Street restaurant will bring in Barrio Fino, a bartending collective and pop-up, for an event called Especial Navideño.

Especial Navideno will feature live dj sets and food created by Canje in collaboration with guest chef José Luis Vega Santiago, who has lechon pop-ups around town. It will also have drinks by the Barrio Fino team. No word yet on the set beverage menu, you can expect nonalcoholic options and a ton of coquitos on deck.

Tickets are available for free through Eventbrite for the 21 and up event, and food and drinks will be available for purchase separately. Barrio Fino will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. that night.

Kitty Cohen’s hosts a month-long Hanukkah takeover

Kitty Cohen’s is hosting a Hanukkah celebration with pop-ups throughout the month, now running through Tuesday, December 30. Throughout the month, the bar will team up with local chefs and bakeries for different menus. Expect Mediterranean plates from Knuckle Sandwich and Ezov chef Gilbert St. Peter, Jewish-Cambodian from chef Chanda Mau’s Ming Da’s Cambodian, a selection of Holiday appetizers from the bar’s chef Peter Klein, and baked treats from pastry wizard Amanda Rockman of Rockman Coffee and Bakeshop. Slowpoke Tattoos will also stop by for host a mini tattoo night on Friday, December 12 at 6 p.m.

As far as cocktails go, Kitty Kohen’s will have festive Hanukkah cocktails like a latke punch with potato vodka and apple cider and a frozen egg nog with spiced rum and cinnamon. The full calendar of events is available on Instagram.

Birdie’s is hosting a pop-up evoking French bistro food

Another holiday celebration that should be on your radar is Birdie’s annual holiday French bistro pop-up. Bistro Remy will take place from now until Saturday, December, 20. The dinners at Bistro Remy feature a five-course menu inspired by a trip owners Tracy Malechek-Ezekiel and Arjav Ezekiel took to Paris with their son, Remy.

Dishes include warm gougeres stuffed with mornay (with the option to add Perigord black truffle for $24); brown butter cauliflower soup; salade verte with Banyuls vinaigrette, tarragon, and apples; housemade Toulouse sausage with potato puree; wagyu boeuf Bourguignon braised in red Burgundy with pommes purée; and a vegetarian options available upon request. Desserts include apple galette with vanilla soft serve and caramel; chocolate mousse topped with candied almonds and citrus; or brebirousse with baguette that’s described as oozy and cheesy. The prix fixe menu comes in at $79 per person, with an optional black truffle french fries addition at $32. As per usual for a dinner at Birdie’s, Bistro Remy is walk-ins only.
