Lubbock, TX – Mild December sunshine is set to give way to a sharp chill in Lubbock by Friday, as a cold front slams into the region, dropping temperatures nearly 30 degrees in just 48 hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs will peak in the upper 60s to low 70s through Thursday under clear skies. But by Friday, the arrival of a strong cold front will slash daytime temperatures into the upper 40s, with overnight lows plunging into the low to mid-20s. The South Plains can expect this cooler pattern to linger into the weekend.
Residents across Lubbock County and surrounding areas should prepare for the sudden temperature drop by securing outdoor pipes, layering up for early mornings, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets. While no precipitation is expected, wind chills may make it feel colder than the thermometer suggests late week.
Calm and sunny conditions will remain, but the warmth won’t last. The NWS says additional fronts may follow by early next week, reinforcing the chill.
More updates are expected midweek as models firm up timing and intensity.
