1. Kerrville flood dispatchers handled more than one call a minute during deadly Fourth of July flood

After numerous requests from media outlets across the country, the 9-1-1 calls from the deadly Fourth of July Hill Country floods are being released in their entirety without redaction to comply with the Freedom of Information Act. 

The Kerrville Police Department said it has worked closely with the Texas Attorney General’s Office to prepare for this release. Kerrville Police Chief Chris McCall warned the public ahead of the release on Friday, saying the calls are distressing. 

2. Texas DPS officers replace Alamo Rangers at historic site

The Alamo has undergone a changing of the guard as Texas Department of Public Safety officers took over the duties of the Alamo Rangers, a private security force created 50 years ago.

The change follows the approval of Senate Bill 3059, which passed in June. According to a Senate Committee report, the law enacts “the transfer of power and duties from the General Land Office to the commission as provided by this Act,” called the Alamo Commission.

3. Trump slams pardoned Texas Democratic congressman as ‘disloyal’ for not switching parties

Donald Trump is angry that Rep. Henry Cuellar is running again as a Democrat rather than switch parties after the president pardoned the Texas congressman and his wife in a federal bribery and conspiracy case.

Longhorns not among teams qualifying for National Championship

The University of Texas fell just short of a National Championship spot on Sunday.

The Longhorns ranked 13th in the College Football Playoff (CFP) bracket. Only the top 12 made the postseason cut. The Texas team leaves with a final record of 9-3.
