If you live in Lubbock, this new poll won’t shock you one bit: one in four Americans ALWAYS have music playing, and based on my experience driving around the Loop, it’s absolutely at least one in four Lubbockites.

Seriously–I can’t even get through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru without hearing three different genres coming from three different cars. Country from the truck ahead, Tejano from the Tahoe behind me, and whatever the heck Gen Z is listening to blasting from the Civic beside me.

But the survey confirms it:
23% of people listen to music almost all the time, and that number jumps to 36% for young folks, who have quite literally not taken off their headphones since last Christmas. Half the teens at South Plains Mall are out there walking around like NPCs in AirPods.

Spotify Wrapped Drops, and Lubbock Residents Pretend They’re Not Embarrassed

Since Spotify Wrapped just dropped, the survey also asked people if they’d be embarrassed for their friends to see their top tracks.

Nationally, 31% say they’d be excited, and only 3% would be embarrassed.
In Lubbock? Let’s be real–we’re all excited until we see what we actually listened to.

It starts out like:
“Wow, look at me, discovering new artists.”

Then it turns into:
“Why is ‘Neon Moon’ my #1 again?”
“Why did I listen to that one Taylor Swift song 487 times?”
“Why did I listen to Wang Chung last May?”

Because you’re unique. That’s why.

Did Our Tastes Change in 2025? Ehhh…Not Really.

One in four people say their music taste evolved this year.
The rest of us? Nope. Still listening to the same stuff, still cranking up the volume on Slide Road, still pretending we totally meant to listen to that much REO Speedwagon.

Here in Lubbock, we don’t change our music tastes–we just change the speakers we blast it on.
